The original Wattyl Stylwood 30% premium lacquer (please note this is not to knock off 30% that a lot of companies sell as Nitrocellulose Lacquer 1Litre 30% and say it’s the same) I spray all my woodart and some other wood turned items with Wattyl Style wood
SURFACE PREPARATION • Remove all traces of wax, silicone, oil and other contaminants • Repair any surface damage or defects • Fill nail holes and minor imperfections with Timber Putty with a suitable colour. Apply putty as per data sheet recommendations. Allow to dry. • Sand smooth, in the direction of the timber grain using 180-240 grit, dry sanding paper, and remove all sanding dust
STAINING • If required, stain the surface using solvent or water based stain. Apply stain as per data sheet recommendations
SEALING • Apply one full coat of Wattyl Multi Sealer Clear to all exposed surfaces including edges. • Allow to dry, then sand thoroughly until the surface area is flat with no shiny or glossy areas visible with 240 grit in the direction of the timber grain.
FINISHING • Apply one full coat of Wattyl Stylwood 30% in desired gloss level to all exposed surfaces including edges. Apply lacquer as per data sheet recommendations • Allow to dry then sand to de-nib surfaces before applying the next coat. • Apply one full coat to all exposed surfaces including edges. Allow 20mins to dry & harden before moving.
Mixing • You can mix of thinners to lacquer by (Ratio of about 10% to 50% for the desired finish you’re looking for.
If I am staining a piece I will even out the tones before my top-coat by spraying a mix of stain/lacquer/thinners first (Ratio of about 50%/50% giving the lighter piece an extra coat or two before applying top coats at 40%/60
