Mount the sharpening disc onto your lathe. Set lathe speed to 300 RPM.
Insert your carbide cutter into the sharpening dowel and place it in a battery-powered drill.
Lightly spray water on the disc surface.
Run the drill in the opposite direction of the lathe while gently pressing the cutter's heel/bevel to the disc.
Gradually move the drill toward the headstock until the cutter’s cutting edge contacts the disc.
For better accuracy, mark the cutter’s face with a permanent marker to track your sharpening progress.
Sharpness tip: Lightly touch the cutter's edge to your fingernail — if it shaves, it's not sharp enough; it should bite in immediately.
